- Being an athlete and a full time student is hard. You need to learn how to manage your time wisely. I play soccer and this year we had a hard time trying to find a JV coach to come and condition the entire team. I noticed time was being wasted by trying to find someone so I took charge. I scheduled after school conditioning and a lot of girls showed up. As a senior I came up with my own workouts and strategies I have learned in the past to teach the incoming freshmen and other returning players. I was actually shocked how more than 60 girls were listening to me. I do believe I had the leadership skills to lead a team or be team captain because I encourage others, push them to be their best, and have a positive influence on them. Each girl that is out there every day running 3-4 miles every day is learning how to be a leader, that’s how I learned.

- My favorite academic subject is Spanish. This class has taught me how to be influential, helpful and how to be a leader. Spanish or any other language can be beneficial in jobs, for example I want to be a councilor and by being bilingual I’ll have more advantage and opportunities in getting the position. This AP class has influenced me because I want to major in Education and language. I have learned higher level knowledge that will later on help me. Taking Spanish has helped me be a translator for my parents. My parents don’t speak English so I have to translate for them most of the time so I’ve managed to translate without any problems. Being bilingual and knowing how to speak Spanish has been a great opportunity in my life. It has opened up many doors and will open more in the future.
- I see myself as a hard working student. Being an athlete, a full time student, and working a part time job all at once is extremely hard, but not impossible. I’ve learned how to manage my time and have a busy schedule. If I’m not a practice I’m at work from 4 pm to 10 or 11 pm. Then when I get out I do homework up until like 1 am. It does get hard but I manage to work it. I feel like I have the skills needed to go to this University because without knowing how to manage your time like how I have then what’s the point of even going to college? You need to learn how to prioritize and I’ve learned how to do it in a correct manner. I work extremely hard to get to where I’m heading to so getting accepted to this campus is just another step in reaching my goals.
- A challenge I’ve faced in High School was when my grandma passed away. Being close to someone and one day just waking up and not knowing there not with you anymore is hard. She passed away due to cancer so it was a tough loss. Her death affected my academics because I began to fall behind in school. It was my sophomore year and it’s one of the years where colleges start looking at you. I had realized that I had fallen behind way too much so I needed to stay after school. The last 2 months I stayed every day for 2 hours practically until I was kicked out, but I worked hard and ended up passing 6 out of 7 classes. I finished the year with a 3.71 GPA and felt like I had overcame the biggest obstacle that has came my way. Obstacles aren’t easy to overcome, but if you put your mind into it then you can achieve practically anything.
