The Start of the End
Today was my last first day of school. I’m a year away from becoming an adult. In one year, when I walk down the football field I will be graduating and entering the “real world.” Sounds scary but I’ve been told it’ll fly by! I remember entering as a freshman in 2013 and thinking “wow I’m already in high school, 4 more years to go” and now I’m down to one year left. I never imagined myself to be a senior so fast, I get looked at as the “top dog” of the school, we’re the oldest so everyone looks up to us. As I continue my last year, I hope it goes by fun and I enjoy every second of it before June 9th comes, graduation.
Some of my goals for senior year are to just enjoy every second of it. I want to remember high school and think of how much fun I had by participating and joining clubs. My goal for senior year is to join at least more than 4 clubs. I’m interested in joining Key Club because you do a lot of community service and it counts towards your 20 hours of community service for graduation. I like being involved with school because when I apply to colleges it’ll look good on my application. Another goal I have set up for myself is to not fall behind in my classes, I want to be able to graduate top 10% of my class and graduate with honors. Graduating with honors will be the biggest accomplishment I have ever done.
My senior project has been pushed back a little. I haven’t done my job shadow but I plan to job shadow my 5th grade Spanish teacher. I’m choosing a Spanish teacher because my pathway is Spanish. I enjoy speaking Spanish it’s in my heritage since I come from a Mexican culture. I’m going to major in Spanish or a language course because I really picture myself in the future teaching a Spanish class. Also I’m really looking forward to presenting in front of people to present my Senior project, I’m not shy at all to speak in a crowd so I’m really confident that I’ll do well.
My last year in High School I wish to stay on pace in all classes. It’s my last year so if I fall behind in just one class it can really screw me over. I’m a busy person; I play sports, work and go home to babysit. I plan on staying as much as I can after school on my days off to get ahead or to even do some level 4’s. Staying on pace will help me graduate on time and it will also make me more responsible with my work. Graduation is only a couple months away but just by a blink of an eye it’ll be June 9th and I’ll be finally done with High School.
Passing The Border Line
As it gets closer to second semester there has been a lot of stress around me. My classes have gotten a little bit harder and my work is piling up. Right now I am 5/7 classes that I am on pace and I think I’m doing a great job do to the fact that I’m juggling soccer and a job other than school work. At this point all of my college applications have been submitted. I applied to Fresno State, Sacramento State, San Jose State and Monterey Bay. I haven’t gotten any acceptance letters yet but I hope to soon. After my job shadow I’m pretty confident that I want to be a Spanish teacher. I had such an amazing experience with kids it’s my passion. I want to come back to my community and give back everything it was able to give me, an education. Something that excites me the most about Highschool coming to an end is going to Grad Night with my classmates. When we were in second grade we all went to Disneyland as a class and now 11 years later we’re able to go again but this time not as kids, as soon to be high school graduates. It has been very exciting to watch everyone grow and become young adults. I think the hardest part of all this is having to say goodbye to our friends. We’ve been together since we were 5 so it is going to be tough to see everyone go their separate ways. Although High school has been fun there has been some stuff I will never forget about like my soccer team. My soccer team is the best! I believe if you are involve in sports throughout your high school years then it’ll be more memorable to you. The memories I’ve created on the field are unforgettable. The friendships, my coach, I’ve met some of the most amazing girls in my life and I will never forget about them. I am also involved in ASB and National Spanish Honors Society. These clubs have helped build my social skills and speaking skills. I’ve gotten really creative ever since joining these clubs and it continues to make me grow each day. I’ve gotten the opportunities to plan school events like rallies and special events like Duke’s birthday (which is our school mascot). During this activity I planned a big party so I bought pinatas, candy bags we set up music handed out cupcakes cookies and other goodies for everyone at the school. This activity was so great to me because I got to see everyone enjoy this lunch activity and it was actually one of the best ones at Lindsay High School. Also I’m in art club and it has been amazing to be able to develop different responsibilities and be able to have fun at the same time. This is what High school is about, having fun.
Coming to the End
As 2016 comes to an end I realize how fast this year went by. 2017 is right around the corner and you know what that means? Graduation year! I didn’t really listen or take into consideration that “senior year flies” and now I’m starting to see why. With just a blink of an eye it is now the end of first semester. I am confident that I will pass all my classes because I’ve been staying after school to finish everything on time. Winter break is right around the corner and I can’t wait because that means I can finally rest after so much work I’ve had to do. Senior year is hard and a lot of work but it’s capable of getting through it. I’ve lost sleep because of how late I’ve had to stay up but it’ll all be worth it at the end. I plan on resting for a week and then getting back into grind mode. I plan on completing level 4’s throughout my break and try to finish everything early so I won’t be stressing the last week of the semester. One activity I look forward to is my last winter formal. I’ve only gone my freshmen year and this will be my second time going. Although it is my last one I hope it’s fun because that’s one event I’ve really been looking forward to, just to dance with everyone and have a good time. It makes me sad how it is going to be my last dance but this is why I want to make the best out of it. As 2017 comes closer I hope it brings nothing but joy and happiness. This is MY year, I know it. I know I will accomplish great things I just need to keep on working as hard as I am now or even harder. The more I accomplish in 2017, the more my parents will be proud me. I want to make them feel proud of me since I am the first to go to college so I don’t want to disappoint them. All the hard work they had to go through just so that I can go to school to get a better education than what they had is eye opening. Just like the saying says “My parents crossed the border so I can cross the stage”. My thoughts to this is so heart warming because it really is true. Coming from a Mexican culture most kids stop going to school after High school and go work. I want to change that and have everyone go to college because it isn’t easy for our parents so we should at least pay them back with going to get a good education. It is my goal to walk that stage on June 9th with my high school diploma and graduate with spanish honors. I know it’ll make not just me proud but others around me, mainly my parents and family.
